Dry Eye Treatment Options

From symptom relief to root-cause recovery — discover the right treatment for lasting comfort, clearer vision, and healthier eyes.

Understanding Dry Eye

More Than Just Dry Eyes

Dry Eye Disease (DED) is a chronic condition caused by insufficient or poor-quality tears. Left untreated, it can lead to inflammation, ocular surface damage, and significant quality-of-life impact.

Common symptoms include persistent dryness, grittiness, burning, stinging, redness, blurred vision, and excessive tearing. The root cause is often Meibomian Gland Dysfunction (MGD) — where the oil-producing glands in your eyelids become blocked, leading to rapid tear evaporation.

Common Symptoms

Persistent dryness
Burning & stinging
Gritty sensation
Redness & irritation
Blurred vision
Excessive tearing
Light sensitivity
Eye fatigue

"At The Last Optical, we don't just mask symptoms — we diagnose and treat the underlying cause."

Diagnostics

What's Your Score?

We use two key diagnostic tests to objectively assess your condition and tailor the right treatment plan.

Tear Osmolarity (TOT)

Measures the salt concentration in your tear film (milliOsmoles per liter). Hyperosmolarity is the most accurate and repeatable biomarker for diagnosing Dry Eye Disease — it triggers inflammation and ocular surface damage.

The test is non-invasive, delivers objective results, and takes less than one minute to perform. Early detection allows us to begin treatment before visible damage occurs.

Tear Break-Up Time (TBUT)

Measures how long your natural tears stay on your eyes before they start to evaporate or "break up." Healthy tears should stay stable for at least 10 seconds after a blink.

A short TBUT means your tears are not protecting your eyes properly. This quick, painless test helps us tailor the right treatment, especially for meibomian gland dysfunction.

≥ 10 sec — Normal

Treatment Journey

Five Tiers of Care

From symptom relief to root-cause recovery — each tier builds on the last for comprehensive dry eye management.

  • 60% reduction in ocular surface disease scores
  • 50–150% improvement in Tear Break-Up Time
  • 82% gland function improvement, unclogging oil glands
  • Lowers tear osmolarity by 20+ mOsm/L
  • Delivers long-term, lasting results

Patients often notice a real difference after 1–2 treatments. 4–6 sessions to reach homeostasis, then bi-annual maintenance. No side effects, no downtime.

  • Deep heat melts gland blockage that warm compresses can't reach
  • Stimulates natural tear production without daily drops
  • Improves eyelid and skin quality — a cosmetic perk
  • Excellent for treating and preventing styes
  • Treats ocular rosacea with a spa-like experience

When warm compresses aren't enough or lids become heat-sensitive, RF is an effective solution with lasting results. Best results when combined with IPL.

  • 286% improvement in tear break-up time
  • 75% reduction in lower lid laxity — cosmetic perk
  • 70% improvement in blink quality
  • Creates complete, effective blinks that properly distribute tears

Especially valuable for patients with incomplete blinks or age-related lid laxity contributing to dry eye symptoms.

Ideal for patients who want long-term relief, not just temporary drops.
