Garrett Leight Spring/Summer 2026: Where California Cool Meets Japanese Craft

Garrett Leight California Optical has released its Spring/Summer 2026 collection, and it is one of the most cohesive and quietly confident lineups the brand has produced. Six new optical frames — Alma J, Wilson M, Doc, Lachman, Loma, and Galloway — arrive in a palette drawn directly from the California landscape: Olive Tortoise, Cherry Wood, Sedona, Woodglen Tortoise, Sandstone Fade, and Pinewood. The collection is a masterclass in how to make eyewear that feels both of the moment and completely timeless.

At The Last Optical, we have carried Garrett Leight since our earliest days. The brand's philosophy — born in Venice Beach, crafted in Japan — aligns perfectly with our own commitment to eyewear that is made with intention, not mass-produced for volume. Every GLCO frame passes through the hands of Japanese artisans who bring decades of precision manufacturing and hand-finishing expertise to each pair.

The Collection: Six Frames, One Vision

The SS26 lineup divides neatly between metal and acetate, giving patients a range of options that suit different face shapes, prescriptions, and personal styles.

The Alma J ($600) is the collection's flagship — a refined metal frame available in Antique Gold, Brushed Radiant Gold, and Pewter. It carries the subtle Art Deco engraving details that have become a hallmark of GLCO's premium metal work, and its proportions are designed to sit beautifully on a wide range of face shapes. The Alma J is the kind of frame that looks equally at home in a boardroom and at a weekend farmers' market.

The Wilson M ($425) is another metal offering, with a slightly more angular silhouette and colorways that mix metals with acetate accents — Brushed Silver-Stillwater, Gold-Matte Beige, Copper-Matte Dark Honey Tortoise, and Antique-Pinewood. The combination of materials gives the Wilson M a textural richness that pure metal frames sometimes lack.

On the acetate side, the Doc ($395) is a classic aviator-inspired shape rendered in rich colorways: Brandy Tortoise, Willow, Light Light Grey, and Black. It is the most versatile frame in the collection — the kind of shape that flatters almost everyone and transitions effortlessly between casual and professional settings.

The Lachman ($395) is a tailored unisex frame with a smooth saddle bridge and subtle angular detailing along the top line. Available in Olio, Clay Crystal, Black, and Cherry Wood, the Lachman is designed for people who want a frame with character but not drama. The Cherry Wood colorway, in particular, is a standout — a warm, reddish-brown tone that catches light beautifully.

The Loma ($395) leans into the collection's nature-inspired palette with Olive Tortoise, Woodglen Tortoise, Sedona, and Black. The Woodglen Tortoise is unlike anything we have seen from other brands this season — a deep, forest-toned pattern that feels organic and sophisticated.

Rounding out the collection, the Galloway ($395) offers Agate Tortoise, Sandstone Fade, Light Light Grey, and True Demi. The Sandstone Fade is particularly noteworthy — a gradient effect that moves from warm amber to translucent, creating a frame that appears to shift depending on the light.

Why the Craftsmanship Matters

What separates Garrett Leight from the sea of fashion eyewear brands is the manufacturing. Every GLCO frame is handcrafted in Japan, where optical manufacturing is treated as a discipline on par with watchmaking or blade-smithing. The acetates are sourced from the finest houses in the world — including exclusive colorways produced solely for GLCO — and the curing process ensures that each frame maintains its color, shape, and structural integrity for years.

The lenses deserve mention as well. GLCO uses mineral glass and scratch-resistant CR-39 plastic with anti-reflective coating, delivering optical clarity that rivals lenses costing far more. For prescription patients, these frames accept virtually any lens type — single vision, progressive, or specialty — and the build quality ensures that even complex prescriptions sit properly and maintain alignment over time.

The Legacy Behind the Frames

Garrett Leight is the son of Larry Leight, founder of Oliver Peoples — one of the most influential eyewear brands of the past four decades. Growing up surrounded by the craft, Garrett launched his own label in 2010 from Venice Beach, California, with a vision that was distinctly his own: California culture filtered through Japanese precision. The brand's stamp — VC/CA 90291, the Venice Beach zip code — appears on every frame as a reminder of those roots.

The father-son connection also gave rise to Mr. Leight, a collaboration between Larry and Garrett that bridges multiple generations of design philosophy. Together, they represent one of the most significant family legacies in independent eyewear.
